Watchmen Atlanta: HBO Advanced Screening Event
On Thursday, October 17, 2019 I had the pleasure of being a featured guest at Atlanta’s exclusive Watchmen HBO Screening event, with a panel moderated by Kid Fury. Panelists included myself, Tatiana King Jones of ForAllNerds, Karama Horne (The Blerd Gurl) and William Evans of Black Nerd Problems.
The venue was brilliantly furnished in a Watchmen inspired theme, with yellows, blacks, and red accenting every corner. There was fabulous Watchmen inspired decor pieces ranging from mirrors displaying the infamous Latin slogan “Quis Custodiet Ipsos Custodes?”, to mannequins wearing the actual costumes from the Watchmen HBO show.
The standing room only venue was abuzz with excitement, as they prepared for the screening. The audience was treated to the full first episode along with a special look ahead to the rest of the series. Afterwards, Kid Fury moderated our panel where we unpacked the many layers of the amazing episode we watched and shared what fans would be able to look forward to. Our discussion was incredible dive into how Watchmen affects TheCulture™️, the impact of the legend Regina King as the lead in the series, the historical and social implications of the themes in show and more.
After the well received and engaging panel, we were treated to a beautiful reception! We got to enjoy Watchmen inspired drinks like the “Sister Night-cap”, took high speed photos in the official Watchmen photo booth, and danced the night away to hip-hop and trap music while enjoying delicious passed hors d’oeuvres. The best part was seeing and meeting all the beautiful faces of the Atlanta community. As an event for blerds (“black nerds”) and by blerd, the love was palpable. And as Watchmen was mostly shot in Atlanta it made the event all the more special.
Watchmen is thrilling, presents arresting visuals, is thoughtful, and has all the energy you’re looking for in a more realistic, hero setting. The series premieres on HBO on Sunday, October 20, 2019 at 9p EST on HBO.
