VRLA Summer Expo 2016 Highlights & Review
It’s been an exciting week in the VR industry and VRLA Summer Expo 2016 has been a smashing success and far larger than it has ever been. As always, we here at FanBros take the time to recap our favorite products, events and overall things for us to look forward to after this weekend. Here’s some of our favorite(of many) announcements and stay tuned as we delve deeper into these exciting advancements in your everyday life.
Most Influential To The Industry:
While Wiredrive was not on the main show floor, it was quite obvious that their current position in the industry will be key to the expansion of it. What makes them so deserving of this title is that these aren’t just moves on the industry by continuing to be the successful software company they’ve proven to be. With their pursuit of also bringing in major companies to build marketing videos to promote products across all platforms, they’ve made themselves a crucial pillar to help promote businesses through 360 video.
Best New Hardware:
Jaunt VR has already been a huge global platform as a VR library and with the release of Jaunt Publishing. They have moved into helping content creators creating VR video. This release coincides perfectly with Jaunt‘s game-changing move of not only creating the best new camera on the market for such a low price, but also bringing Jaunt One into the hands of content creators, by way of a leasing program. Even after your content has been created, Jaunt offers an editing/stitching program that handles the final necessary polish before being published.
Biggest Show Surprise:
Nux Games’ Wand
A really amazing surprise that exploded from this year’s show unexpectedly was Wands by Nux Games. This Swedish team showed off the greatest PvP action experience introduced to the Gear VR. Two wizards battle in an arena and teleport around the combat field with a collection of attack, defense and modification spells. The ability to teleport is made simply by the player looking at platforms and pressing one button. The online connection between units not only works across Nux Games’ own servers, but they’ve provided a PC app to work as a spectator mode for players. In terms of new features in mobile gaming, they’ve gone above & beyond. And we all will be able to experience it this August 18th.

If you’ve been following us this week, you know we’ve had nothing but amazing things to say about every feature of the Envelop VR and how it will be changing everything from home lives to major businesses. The ability to turn your desktop into a VR environment and multitask in this interface is what we’ve only seen in science fiction. The software released as a Beta this past Friday, August 5th and is available for the Oculus Rift and HTC Vive.

Best In Show:
Without a doubt, Mindshow held the most impressive demo and transported the industry so far into the future that my jaw remained on the floor for the following day. The ability to create an immersive world around the user isn’t new. That’s specifically what VR is about. But, the chance to embody any character you create in that world is something I had no idea was possible present day. And here we are. The ability to not only direct a scene, create props, interact with your environment, embody every character individually in each scene changes the rule and adds tremendous new scale to to what we can do in the world of VR. Entire films, series, tutorials or even just custom cards could be created on an HTC Vive.
It’s an intelligent move using animation. It captures emotion easier, by having preset emotions that you can select using your Vive controllers in hand. Meanwhile, not only can your voice be recorded, but the movements of your mouth are tracked. Within minutes, you will be directing yourself and creating a bold new experience to publish. Is this worth purchasing a an HTC Vive with a compatible PC rig?: Yes.
I want to thank everyone who was a part of FanBros’ first VRLA and for all of you for tuning in. It’s been an amazing experience, a fun party and a beautiful trip into what is the future of Virtual Reality.
