Sennheiser GSP 550 PC Gaming Headphones Review
Selecting your next set of gaming headphones can be a near impossible task given the amount of choices today. Sennheiser has been a mainstay in audio engineering for over 70 years and has often been likened to Bose when it comes to audio quality. As many other companies have in the past decade, Sennheiser recognizes that the gaming industry is a prime market to be a part of and have begun delivering their premium quality products to the gaming headset market. The GSP 550 headphones are stunning examples of what great gaming headphones should be.
When you look at the market of premium gaming headsets, there are a lot to choose from. Aside from the obvious requirement of the sound being good, gamers are going to want comfort. A die hard gamer will spend 2-4 hours in a typical gaming session so having headphones that don’t leave your ears sore is a rare quality to have. Also, the microphone is going to need to be decent enough that those on the other end can clearly hear what you have to say. I’m happy to say that for price, Sennheiser hits all of these points with high marks.
The GSP 550 is Sennheiser’s wired PC market offering that easily puts most gaming headphones to shame. Equipped with 7.1 Dolby Surround Sound, this headset is power packed with full and rich sound that clearly delivers all ranges of sound without having to tinker much with default settings. Audiophiles will instantly recognize the worth of this headset given the rich bass that the headphones deliver thru to the crisp ranges needed for conversations. This means that these headphones are great for music, movies, games, and convos on your PC.
With the software to help configure the type of listening you’ll be doing, you can always adjust how your headphones will sound. Also, the noise cancelling microphone allows you to speak normally without having to use a raised voice to conversate when you are gaming late night. These features are a testament to the speaker and microphone expertise that Sennheiser’s German engineered product delivers.
The only drawback found when using this how bulky the whole headset is. If you are the kind of person that is a clean freak and needs to put these away rather than hang them off of your desk, you may have a hard time. These do not fold up so prepare to have room in your drawer or desk. Also, you would thing that once you get into the premium sound range of headsets that companies would go ahead and aim for true 7.1 sound rather than the typical Dolby 7.1 route. I’m certain that would push the price higher though.
The Sennheiser GSP 550 gaming headphones are an excellent selection for those who want to get serious about their PC gaming. Great comfort, a nice mic, and surround sound place it in the top tier of gaming headphone options on the market.
