Nickelodeon Says “F it!” Legend of Korra Book 4 Premiers October 3rd
In a surprising move, the creators of The Legend of Korra revealed the fourth and final season of the hit show will premier October 3rd on Nick.com and the Nick App. Yes that October 3rd, the once coming in a few weeks. This will be the shortest turn around in series history. Books 3 and Book 4 were picked up at the same time and at Comic Con, konietzko and DiMartino said production one Book 4 was almost done, mentioning getting the first episodes back from Studio Mir. However, no one would have imagined after the emotional conclusion of Book 3, we would be rejoining Korra so soon.
This announcement leaves me feeling ambivalent. Book 3 of Korra was once of the best shows on television across all genres this past summer and it is exciting to be getting more episodes so soon. Plus there is the added bonus of Nickelodeon having three plus weeks to promote the premier instead of six days. However, I can’t help but feel as if this is Nickelodeon trying to burn off the remainder of the series. Many of Book 3 viewership issues are a direct result of Nick’s mismanagement. Premiering Book 4 so soon seems like a continuation of that same pattern of bad decides. To give some perspective, Book 3 won’t even be out on home video until December 2nd. DVD boxsets and Netflix streaming are what made Avatar: The Last Airbender so massively popular after its airing. Korra is not getting that same opportunity here. It also doesn’t help that Nick is still restricting streaming to only their outlets. At least put it on Hulu, the Nick streaming player is mildly terrible and isn’t really built for HD streams.
Still, ultimately this is a good thing. Korra will be back in a few weeks and her story seems to be heading to an epic conclusion.
