Netflix’ The Punisher Gets a Release Date in New Trailer
With the release of its latest and final trailer, Netflix’ The Punisher finally has a release date. Save the date as the entire series will launch on Netflix, Friday November 17th.
(Note: Spoilers for Daredevil Season 2 are included below so tread lightly if you haven’t seen it yet).
Last seen in the second season of Daredevil, Jon Bernthal (Baby Driver, Fury) is back as gun-toting vigilante Frank Castle in his first solo outing. Before donning the skull, Frank served as a soldier in Afghanistan. After the completion of several military operations, Frank learns of the corruption within his unit, and launches a one-man war to expose misdeeds from the top. Also returning from Daredevil is Karen Page, played by Deborah Ann Woll (True Blood, Highland Park). The two had paired up previously in Hell’s Kitchen, so it’s nice to see them back together. Karen’s skills as a reporter should prove invaluable in Frank’s crusade. After saving Matt Murdock from Hand assassins atop a building, he burns down his old home, feeling as he finally has closure. Before he does so, however, he grabs a disc labeled, “Micro,” a nod to comic character of the same name. In addition to Micro, we also get a brief view of Frank Castle’s iconic Battle Van. The Punisher may share the same world as other series such us Luke Cage, but thing couldn’t look much more different as the bullet count alone suggests extremely graphic violence, the character’s trademark. The series will also feature the character Billy Russo, known to comic fans as Jigsaw. If the name sounds familiar, Dominic West played the character in Lexi Alexander’s Punisher: War Zone.
The Punisher was famously pulled from New York Comic-Con this year following the Las Vegas shooting, and initials rumors suggested a Netflix launch that weekend. While we’ll never be able to confirm that detail, all appears set for a successful launch when all 13 episodes are released later this Fall.
Netflix’ The Punisher premieres on Friday, November 17th and also stars Ebon Moss-Bachrach (Person of Interest, The Last Ship) Jason R. Moore (Law& Order: SVU, The Sorcerer’s Apprentice), Jaime Ray Newman (Bosch, Bates Motel) and Ben Barnes (The Chronicles of Narnia: Prince Caspian, Westworld)
