Michiko & Hatchin Have Arrived
Every once in a while, there is a change to Adult Swim’s Toonami lineup. Saturday is one of those nights when Michiko & Hatchin premieres. This action/drama series premiered in Japan in 2008 and will occupy the 1:00 am slot previously held by Inuyasha: The Final Act. If you are the impatient (or binge-y) type, Michiko and Hatchin is also available on Hulu.
Hana, also known as Hatchin, is a girl raised by strict foster parents. (Think Harry Potter and that cupboard.) The abuse that she endured caused her to give up her dreams of freedom. Michiko is a criminal who escapes from a supposedly inescapable prison. (Hmmm… This is giving me Sirius Black vibes.) When she suddenly enters Hana’s life, these two very different women set off on a journey across a lawless land in search of a missing man from both their pasts.
Visually, Michiko & Hatchin has a Cowboy Bebop feel to it. And that makes sense because it is from the creators of Cowboy Bebop and Samurai Champloo. With a Brazil-like country as the backdrop, viewers can expect an eclectic soundtrack with Latin influence. This Deadly Diva has listened to the soundtrack. It will not disappoint.
Change is good. By the looks of Michiko & Hatchin, change may actually be great.
