Kamala Khan Is In Square Enix's Avengers And Life Is Good

We all knew that Kamala Khan was going to make an appearance in the upcoming Square Enix game Avengers, but it’s a whole nother thing to pick up a controller and smack a bunch of unnamed AIM agents down to the white meat with Ms. Marvel herself.  As I walloped round after round of synthetic bots with Kamala’s embiggened limbs, bouncing around the training area like a young Peter Parker, whooping much ass and taking no names, I started to think that they might have a winner on their hands.

Kamala Khan Is In Square Enix's Avengers And Life Is Good

But, I’m getting ahead of myself.  Earlier this week I was ushered into a penthouse suite to get a hands on with one of next year’s biggest releases.  Now a lot of people have seen the footage of the level that I got to play, an intro level that shows you how each of the main Avengers team operates, while giving you a feel for the mechanics of the entire game.  This level takes place mainly on the San Francisco bridge, as the Avengers attempt to stop the Taskmaster from triggering a detonator that he is carrying with him.  You get to play as Captain America, Thor, Hulk, Black Widow, and Iron Man, testing each of their abilities as you plow through Taskmaster’s goons.  Each Avenger has their own section on this level, so that you can get a good feel for each one of them, with the level ending with a boss fight against the Taskmaster.

SPOILER – While the Black Widow manages to handle Taskmaster, dude still pushes down on that old detonator and blows most of San Fran into the ether.  It’s a bad day for the Avengers, and they are rightfully blamed for the destruction of the city.  From there, we skip ahead five years (where have I heard this before) to a time where… Well I’ll let you find out about that on your own.

    That ain’t Avenger’s tower…

But, like I said one clue I can give you is that Ms. Marvel herself plays a big role in what happens after that, with her character being the eyes into the world of Square Enix’s Avengers.  It is her perspective that informs the story, and it was super refreshing to hear the Enix team speak about their love for Kamala.

After a quick talk from the team where they highlighted some more of the mechanics of the game, which include numerous skins and upgrades for every character, main missions which are solo and move the plot of the story along, as well as side missions which you can play with up to FOUR players in online co-op. Yes, you will be able to gather your crew and rock online with your own team of customized Avengers.   Imagine Mr. Fixit rocking with original armor Iron Man, or Thor in his old school armor kicking ass with the comic version of Black Widow. Plus, your look doesn’t affect your stats or abilities, so you can be as fresh as you want while still making sure you are laying down nothing but the hammer.

We were then returned to our stations where we got to rock the training round with Kamala Khan, and I have to say this was the moment where I knew I needed this game. Each of the Avenger’s playstyle is so different, and when I got to rock with Ms. Marvel I got to see how much the team had put into making each character feel like their own hero.   Plus, the team at Square Enix are fully committed to developing the world of Avengers, with new characters and missions arriving in the months and years to come.   All of this extra content will be free, so just wait until they open up that Wakanda region and throw Shuri and T’Challa up in the mix.
