Witcher Celebrates Its 10 Year Anniversary
If you’re a fan of the Witcher, you probably saw the very lovely short video celebrating the series’ 10th anniversary with the very first coming out in 2007. Witcher 3 is actually my favorite game, so of course I’m very happy that the series made it so far after the first wasn’t critically received that well. If you haven’t given the series a try, go ahead and check it out. You can see the video CD Projekt Red made here, and congratulations on its 10th anniversary.
LA Noire Gets A Re-Release
Probably one of Rockstar’s best games is getting a re-release for PS4, Xbox One, and the Switch. LA Noire was a huge game for when it came out, showing a different side of Rockstar Games by having you play as a detective named Cole Phelps post-WWII as opposed to their usual MO of playing as the crime-doer in GTA. LA Noire was also a very impressive step for facial animation, with all the characters’ faces being scanned and modeled in to ensure ultra-real facial expressions, which was very important for the game’s interrogation system. If you haven’t gotten to play this gem, it’ll be released for the current generation of consoles November 14th. You can see the game’s 6 year old launch trailer here, the graphics definitely hold up.
South Park’s New Game Uses Race As A Difficulty Setting
The new South Park game, The Fractured But Whole, has made headlines this week with the game’s difficulty slider being very… racial. This new difficulty slider changes your skin tone, the darker you are, the more difficult the game will be for you. This will only affect social interactions and how much money you can earn, not combat thankfully, but what in the world? As a concept, this is genius, having people interact with you differently based on what race you are is pretty realistic and very interesting. I just don’t know if I trust South Park with it. I giggled when I saw it though, I thought it was a joke at first. Hopefully they execute it well. I guess we’ll see when October 17th comes around.
Shadow Of War Memorializes Developer With DLC
A developer named Michael Forgey who worked at Monolith sadly passed away while Shadow Of War was still in development. To commemorate him, the team at Monolith created a DLC character named Forthog Orc-Slayer to help the player when they’re about to lose in battle. The DLC will be priced at $4.99, with $3.50 of each purchase going to the family. There’s a small problem with that though. A portion only goes to the family in 44 states. In the trailer that you can see here, there’s a fine print that states that if you purchase this DLC in Alabama, Hawaii, Illinois, Massachusetts, Mississippi or South Carolina, none of your money will go to the family. Based on another interaction on Twitter with the official Shadow Of War account, if you live outside of the US, your money will not be going to the family.
I’d like to pose the question, where is that money going? If they’re profiting off of this DLC in memory of a man they worked with, that’s pretty morally wrong. They’ve stated that WB nor Monolith are profiting from the sales of the DLC, but they have not stated if the money is going to some sort of cancer charity, which is the cause of Michael Forgey’s death. Hopefully they elaborate on what’s going on.
Mario Is No Longer A Plumber
If you know gaming’s favorite mascot, you probably know that the most well known job title he had was plumbing. Mario is the most well known plumber that has rarely ever fixed a pipe. Or should I say, he was. Nintendo hit us with some very surprising news this week, that their number one guy has retired from the plumbing game. I mean, he hasn’t shown up for work in so long that he was probably fired, but let’s just say he’s retired. At least he’s been keeping himself busy, competing in the Olympic games, becoming a kart racer, becoming a doctor, going to space on a couple occasions, I doubt he’d want to go back to plumbing anyway. He should really have a space in the royal family’s security with how many times he’s saved the princess. Onto greener pastures, I suppose.
