Sega Plans To Revive Its Major IPs

Sega has recently revealed that they plan to revive a few of their older franchises. They’ve shown this in their “Road to 2020” presentation how they plan to handle their IPs, digitally and packaged.

Packaged Games Field (example titles: Total War: Warhammer, Yakuza 6: The Song of Life, Football Manager 2017, and Persona 5)

    • Expand existing IPs and obtain new IPs for North American and European PC games
    • Build revenue base by being entrusted with outsourced development
    • Challenge for new IPs
    • Revival of major IPs
    • Effective utilization of development engines

Digital Games Field (example titles: Puyo Puyo!! Quest, Hortensia Saga, Chain Chronicle 3, and Phantasy Star Online 2)

    • Create titles that will become global hits
    • Establish digital marketing business
    • Expand overseas publishing business
    • Maintain profits through long-term operation of existing titles
    • Develop next-generation titles

Sonic Forces Makes Your Deviantart OCs Real!

In more Sega news, they’ve recently released a trailer for the upcoming Sonic game, Sonic Forces. The trailer shows that they’re implementing a new character creation system, which I’m sure Sonic fans have been waiting on for a very long time. Just check deviantart. Sonic Forces plans to release this holiday, 2017.

Netflix Is Producing A Witcher Series

If you’ve played the Witcher games or at least Witcher 3, you’ll know how great its storytelling is. You’ll also be glad to hear that Netflix is apparently planning to adapt the novels into a series, even with the original writer, Andrzej Sapkowski, playing the role of consultant for it. Tomas Baginski, who worked on Witcher 2, 3, and is working on Cyberpunk 2077, will also be directing at least one episode a season. All in all, this seems like a great way to satisfy the fans that will want to be in the Witcher universe.

Is There A Chance For Scalebound?

Xbox fans were really excited about Scalebound, especially with it being one of the few Xbox exclusive games they could hope for. Sadly, it was cancelled earlier this year, to the dismay of many, citing creative issues between Platinum and Microsoft. You may find it odd to know that Microsoft has recently renewed the Scalebound trademark, even though the game is no longer in development. Perhaps they’ll do something with the IP? It’s unlikely. It’s more likely that they renewed it so Platinum couldn’t move it to another platform. It’s probably still safe to say that we won’t be seeing anything more of Scalebound.

Ubisoft Announces Big Games For E3 Lineup

Ubisoft has confirmed that a new Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry 5, South Park: Fractured But Whole, and The Crew 2 will be released this fiscal year, April 1st, 2017 to March 31st, 2018. It’ll be interesting to see how Assassin’s Creed has evolved with the year the series took off. They say that they’ve overhauled the game’s mechanics, so hopefully it isn’t as stale as it was last release. It’ll also be interesting to see how South Park looks with the delay after last year’s E3. Can Ubisoft go 4 for 4 with these titles? Let’s hope so.

    Destiny 2 New Info

Bungie recently had a live stream giving fans a first look at what to expect from Destiny 2 in September, here’s what we learned:

    • PVP will now offer 4v4 modes
    • It’ll be easier to find someone to do a Raid with
    • The campaign is much more narrative driven. There were cutscenes all throughout the gameplay giving context.
    • The story is about dealing with the loss of their home base and vaults
    • Strikes are back
    • New hud tells you info such as if your enemy has their super ready
    • New attack-defend mode called Countdown
    • Exploring will be bigger than ever
    • You can launch all the activities in the game without going to orbit
    • 4 brand new worlds
    • Destiny 2 will feature clans (roster control, custom banners + rewards)
    • Guided Games allows you to pair up with other clans for activities
    • Beta coming this summer
    • There will also be peer-to-peer servers, let’s see how that goes…

    Life Is Strange 2 Confirmed

Life Is Strange fans rejoice! Dontnod has confirmed that a sequel to one of the most praised indie games in recent memory. In a video released on May 18th, the Dontnod heads thank their fans and announce that they’re working on the sequel. Will it feature a new cast? Will we see Max and Chloe again? With how creative the Life Is Strange fanbase is with theories, it’ll be fun to see all of the crazy things they theorize about this.

That has been the news for this week, have any thoughts about them? Leave them in the comments below! Be sure to come back next week for another roundup of gaming news.
