Gaming News Roundup – Apr 30

    Dark Souls On Switch Delayed

Unfortunately it doesn’t look like Dark Souls: Remastered is going to be coming to the Switch on May 25th, as it was originally planned. Without a solid release date, From Software stated that it’ll be some time this summer.

“The new release timing gives the development team the time needed to make sure Nintendo Switch players can fully appreciate the true ‘Dark Souls’ experience anytime and anywhere,” Bandai Namco said (via Variety).

There will be a network test for Switch users some time before then so players can get a feel for playing it portably.

The remaster will still be released on PC, Xbox One, and PS4 on May 25th for $39.99.

More Shadow Of The Tomb Raider

We got a new trailer for Shadow of the Tomb Raider this week and it’s doing a great job of establishing the tone of the game. The way it’s shot is very reminiscent of Rambo in a lot of ways. Something else coming from this is that quite a few people are getting to play the game early so a lot of key details are coming out about it such as Kotaku’s Keza MacDonald’s take on it, saying that it’s the darkest in the trilogy. You can read about her experience here, but be ready to become the tomb raider for the 3rd time on September 14th.

    Belgium Declares Loot Boxes Gambling

The conversation about loot boxes continues with this new development of the Belgian Gaming Commission ruling that some loot boxes are in violation of their gambling legislation. The games they looked at include FIFA 18, Overwatch, Counter-Strike, and Star Wars Battlefront 2, with only Battlefront 2 being the only game that wasn’t in violation due to Dice and EA taking their microtransactions out a few months ago.

The board has four precautions to view something as a gambling game of chance: 1) It needs to be a game. 2) The player must put something at stake. 3) The result is either a loss or profit for the player and 4) Chance needs to be involved.

Belgium is now putting forth laws to handle gaming loot boxes that, if broken, could result in a fine or possible jail time.
