Episode 4 picks up right after the last episode’s cliffhanger, with Bruce Wayne committed to Arkham Asylum. Here we’re introduced to Telltale’s version of the Joker, who looks great and is lots of fun. But since time is limited, it isn’t long before Bruce is free and it feels like a slightly wasted opportunity. An incongruous part of this story is that Batman is fully formed and outfitted, yet his enemies are still in their inception stages. In Arkham Asylum, it took a moment for me to realize that Batman and the Joker hadn’t met before.

Once free, Bruce sees the transformation of the Gotham under a deranged Harvey Dent. The citizens despise the Wayne name and the police are under Dent’s thumb. I like how the game gives you the option to choose to resolve conflicts as Batman or as Bruce Wayne. I’ve never chosen Bruce Wayne, why would I? (although when you look at the summary of choices people made at the end, it seems like half the players do).

There were some minor technical issues with frame rate and the episode crashed on me once. The detective mechanic, where obvious clues are connected to piece together a crime scene, is still present but the novelty of it has worn off by this point. Despite these issues, I’m still excited to see how the story is going to wrap up in the final episode.
