Adi Shankar’s POWER/RANGERS
Producer Adi Shankar has already shaken up the world of cinema with his bootleg series. Reimagined takes on existing films or franchises that go heavy on the action. Well he’s officially topped our all time favorite Punisher: Dirty Laundry. And he did it with the Power Rangers. Indeed, the same Power Rangers you pretended to be as a child with your friends. Those exact rangers. But better.
Teaming up with director Joseph Kahn, Adi Shankar’s POWER/RANGERS takes the idea of Power Rangers and adds elements of war torn sci-fi and Kill Bill quality action. The world is part technological wonder, part poverty stricken red state. Actors James Van Der Beek and Katie Sackoff lead this short film as we’re given a look into this world where children were forced into intergalactic battle, and where PTSD has left former rangers hungry for the scent of battle. In the video below Adi Shankar discusses why he decided to do this short film. He also wants you to know that it’s not a pitch for a feature length film. Even though Saban and Lionsgate have teamed up to produce a Power Rangers film that will see release around July 2016. It’s still early in production, this would be the time to give Joseph Kahn and Adi Shankar a call. If anybody at Lionsgate has seen this footage, I expect their already on the phone.
